A group of students in Dhaka on Saturday staged a human chain demanding half fare for metro rail services.

Under the banner of “General Students”, they gathered in front of the metro station in the capital’s Farmgate area at around 12pm on Saturday.

In 2021, a large student movement started in Bangladesh demanding half pass.

In view of this, the notification of half pass to the students in the bus was issued with some conditions in all the cities.

However, no discount is being given to the students in the metro rail. This resulted in discrimination against students, claimed the protesters.

Besides, the exorbitant fares fixed by the metro rail authority have turned out to be a disadvantage for the students and their families, the students said.

Earlier in December 2023, students of Dhaka University demanded half fare following the inauguration of the DU metro station.
