2,835 new books arrive so far in book fair

In the ongoing Ekushey Book Fair, the country's largest literature festival, poetry volumes continue to rule as 905 poetry books out of the total 2,835 books were released so far.

Novel books came second with the publications of 423 books while short story books in third position so far with the publications of 399 books, the Bangla Academy sources said.

Of those, books of essay got fourth position with 159 publications while biographies were fifth with 107 publications.

Besides, 83 rhymes books, 59 researches, 56 Liberation War related books, 54 history books, 54 children novels, 51 travel books, 50 translations, 35 science books, 32 science fictions, 26 compositions, 24 books on religions, 24 comics, 24 dramas, 23 about Bangabandhu, 22 books on politics, 21 books on health, and 17 dictionaries related books were released in this fair so far along with 175 books on other categories. 

Sunday, presence of the visitors was remarkable throughout the day.

This year, a total of 937 stalls have been allocated to 635 organisations in the book fair. The authorities have allotted 173 stalls to 120 organisations on the Bangla Academy ground and 764 stalls to 515 organisations at the Suhrawardy Udyan.

A total of 37 pavilions have also been allocated this year. Last year, a total of 901 stalls were allocated in favour of 601 organisations.

The book fair remains open for all from 3:00pm to 9:00pm on working days and 11:00am to 9:00pm on public holidays with a one-hour break for lunch and prayers.
