A Chattogram court on Tuesday sentenced two brothers to life-term imprisonment for killing a shop owner in Gunagori area under Banshkhali upazila of the district in 23 years ago.
The court also acquitted another one Md Asad in the case for not proving the allegation against him.
The court of First Additional Chattogram District and Sessions Judge Md Robiul Awal pronounced the verdict and also fined them Taka 20,000 each, in default, they are to suffer six months more in jail.
The convicted were-- Md Yasin, 47, his younger brother Md Zakaria, 42, sons of Abdul Goni, hailed from Pukuria village under Banshkhali upazila.
According to court sources, police recovered the decomposed body of a shop owner Ahmed Hossain from his shop after breaking the lock on January 12 in 2001 from Gangori Bazar under Banshkhali upazila of the district.
After the incident, the victim's elder brother Md Nurul Alam filed a murder case with Banskhali Police Station accusing unknown assailants on January 13 in 2001.
On November 26, 2001, Banskhali Thana Police submitted a charge-sheet before the court accusing three people after the investigation.
The court framed charges against those on February 9, 2009.
After examining 13 prosecution witnesses out of 17, the judge pronounced the verdict on Tuesday in the presence of convicted person Zakaria. Another convicted person Md Yasin is on the run.
