A court on Wednesday sentenced three persons to 15-year imprisonment each in a case lodged over recovering 1,04,800 pieces of yaba tablets from city’s Tejgaon Shilpanchal police station area.
The accused who got jail terms are - driver Mamun Howladar, Manik and Alauddin.
Dhaka's Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Tehsin Iftekhar announced the verdict.
In addition to the jail sentence, they were fined Taka 1 lakh each, and in default, they will have to serve one year more in jail.
Before the verdict was announced on Wednesday, driver Mamun and Manik were produced in the court from the jail.
Another accused Alauddin is absconding. After the verdict was announced, the convicts were sent to jail.
The court issued an arrest warrant against the fugitive accused Alauddin.
According to case records, on December 5, 2018, RAB arrested them from Nabisco intersection under Shilpanchal Thana.
Later, Abul Hossain, JCO of RAB-2, filed a case with Tejgaon Shilpanchal Police Station as the plaintiff.
On March 6, 2019, SI Ruhul Amin of the same police station filed a charge sheet against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act, 1990.
On March 1, 2021, the court framed charges against the accused.
During the trial of the case, the court recorded the testimony of 10 people.
