Bangabandhu Parishad today in a statement condemned the barbaric arson attack on a moving train in the city on Tuesday and called upon all to strongly protest the killings and heinous activities.
"Let's protest the killing and barbarism strongly so that such a terrible incident never happens again," read the statement signed by Bangabandhu Parishad President Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and General Secretary Professor ABM Faruque.
Supporters of hartal and blockades set Mohanganj Express on fire that claimed four lives, including a mother and her three-year-old son, the statement said, adding that they earlier removed fishplates of rail track to push the train to derailment.
Since October 28, railways have come under arson attacks four times while the supporters of hartal and blockades torched about 400 buses during this period, it read, adding that they not only damaged the properties, but also created sufferings for the people.
"Setting fire is a very ruthless and inhumane act. Burning people alive is what kind of politics? A phone conversation of a person from abroad has been leaked, where corpses were wanted," the Parishad leaders said, adding that five people have already died from the train fire.
Noting that the police confirmed the incident as sabotage, they (Parishad leaders) demand a full-pledged and impartial investigation within the quickest possible time.
"Investigation should be done not to conceal anything but know the root cause of the incident. Measures should be taken immediately to prevent such incident by identifying the effective ways," the statement read.
Such atrocities and murders are not just showing muscle power rather these are crimes against humanity and genocide, it said, adding, "Is BNP-Jamaat's activities of 2014-15 are being repeated now? Or have more new terrorists added?"
The Parishad leaders demanded to unearth the political identities of the perpetrators of the atrocities before the media and ensure exemplary punishment for them.
