The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Natore has convicted a person and sentenced him to death on charge of killing his wife in Singra Upazila of the district around 13 years back.
The convicted person was identified as Farhad Hossain Mondal of Bashbaria village has also been fined Taka 30,000 in his absentia.
Judge of the tribunal Muhammad Abdur Rahim found him guilty of the murder charge and pronounced the verdict this noon.
The prosecution story in brief was that Farhad Hossain used to torture his wife Fatema Khatun frequently for dowry since their marriage. In the night of December 7, 2011, he beat his wife indiscriminately causing her death on the same night. Subsequently, he went into hiding.
Nur Islam, father of the deceased, lodged a case with Singra Police Station on the following day. Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing Farhad Hossain.
Before handing over the verdict, the tribunal examined recorded depositions of the enlisted prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences.
Special Public Prosecutor Anisur Rahman conducted the case on behalf of the state.
