Harvesting of Mustard is going on in full-swing in Netrakona district during the current fortnight.
Farmers and crop specialists are expecting bumper Mustard production in the district as the farmers are getting better rate of the oil seed in everywhere of the district.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials here said that a target was set by the government to produce 16,062 metric tonnes of Mustard from 12,168 hectares of land. But, the farmers could cultivate Mustard on 10,880 hectares of land which is less by 288 hectors of land against the fixed Mustard farming target of the current Rabi season.
The cultivated land area of 10,880 hectors of land this year is higher by 3245 hectors than the cultivated land of Mustard in the district last year.
But, the Mustard growers successfully completed their cultivation network by using latest technologies and reducing production costs.
Meanwhile, they have started harvesting the oil seed and are getting excellent output of the crop in elsewhere of the district” the DAE officials said.
"It has been possible for the Mustard cultivators to run their cultivation network properly by taking modern methods of the oil seed cultivation as the government has undertaken different farmers-friendly programs, including providing of agricultural incentives to the mustard growers," Deputy Director of the DAE Netrakona Mohammad Nuruzzaman said.
The farmers have shown their keen interest to cultivate mustard on more farm lands than the previous years due to the pragmatic farmers-friendly programs of the government, he said...
"Under the agricultural incentive program, the government distributed 25 metric tons of improved quality Mustard seeds, 252 metric tons of MOP and 252 metric tons of DAP fertilizer among the 25,200 small and marginal farmers in the district" the Deputy Director informed.
Apart from this, the field workers and crops specialists of the DAE rendered their field-level services to let the farmers know about the modern Mustard cultivation methods by using latest technologies for getting better output side by side reducing the production costs, the DD added.
