Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the anti-government movement has to be intensified to restore democracy in the country.
"Democratic-loving people must get united right now for intensifying the anti-government movement to restore democracy in the country. Otherwise, people of the country will never get back their fundamental rights, rules of law and freedom of expression," he said in a statement sent to the media by the party's Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu on Friday.
"The ruling Awami League (AL) will never walk on the track of fair election. In the name of election, they (AL) will only announce unilateral results in favour of them," he said.
He accused the ruling AL of resorting to violence on the court premises.
Condemning the attacks on pro-BNP lawyers by pro-government lawyers on the court premises during Dhaka Lawyers Association election, Mr Fakhrul termed the attacks 'heinous'.
"The AL doesn't believe in holding free, fair and impartial election. Their tradition is that they have no history of exercising democracy. They want to capture all powers including state power by force through farcical election," he said.
