BNP won't join upazila polls under current govt: Rizvi

BNP will not to join the upcoming upazila parishad polls under the current government, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday.

He came up with the announcement while conveying sympathy to the family of BNP leader Abdul Motin, who was found dead at Sherpur upazila of Bogura district last year.

He also warned that they will take organisational measures if any leader and activist of the party participate in upazila elections.

Earlier, he went to the slain BNP leader Motin’s house at Mandail of Bishalpur union of the upazila and talked to the bereaved family members. 

Rizvi also conveyed sympathy to the family on behalf of the BNP chairperson.

He said any election under Sheikh Hasina will never be peaceful, and fair. So, BNP had taken a decision not to go to any election under her. BNP still stands by that decision, he added.

On November 23, last year, BNP leader Abdul Motin ,55, who remained absconding to avoid arrest in police case, was found dead in a mustard field of Mandail village under Sherpur upazila of the district.

Motin was an executive member of Bishalpur union BNP.

Police filed a case accusing 64 people over a clash between the supporters of BNP and Awami League in Sherpur upazila on November 15 amid a countrywide blockade.
