In the midst of students' ongoing efforts for a politics-free campus environment, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has declared its intent to reintroduce political activities at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet). A press briefing held on Tuesday at Dhaka University's Madhur Canteen unveiled BCL's strategic approach to this issue.
BCL President Saddam Hussain presented a four-point agenda aimed at fostering political engagement at Buet. The proposed activities include a sit-in at the Buet Shaheed Minar to reclaim Imtiaz Hossain Rahim Rabbi's residential seat, a dialogue with Buet students to devise strategies for modern and systematic student politics, and seminars and cultural events aimed at countering fundamentalist influences. Additionally, a meeting with Buet administration has been proposed to advocate for the organization of a students’ union election. However, specific dates for these initiatives have yet to be determined.
In his statement, Hussain emphasized the vision of adopting global best practices in student politics, learned from developed countries and top-tier universities worldwide. "Buet will pioneer our approach to student politics, focusing on knowledge-driven leadership rather than traditional methods. We envision a system where Buet students themselves will choose their leaders, fostering a new generation of world-class innovators and entrepreneurs," Hussain elaborated.
The press conference, led by BCL General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, saw the participation of key figures from various BCL units, including Mazharul Kabir Shoyon and Tanbir Hasan Saikat of the Dhaka University unit, along with leaders from the Dhaka City North and South units.
