A farmer was electrocuted while switching on an irrigation pump at a village under Islampur Upazila of the district on Monday morning

The victim was identified as Raju Ahamed , 31, son of Izzat Sheikh at village Degreerchar Baliamary under Islampur Upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC), Islampur Police Station Suman Talukdar said Raju Ahamed was switching on a pump for irrigation at his paddy field near his house. But the pump was electrified earlier. When he touched the cover of the pump he electrocuted. He died on the spot.
