Five people have died in a head-on collision between a truck and a car in Habiganj’s Madhabpur Upazila. Police believe four among the five victims were members of a family.
The incident occurred on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway outside Haritala Badsha Gate in the Upazila around 2am on Thursday, said Shayestaganj Highway Police Station chief Badrul Kabir.
All passengers – a woman, a 12-year-old child and three men – travelling in the private car died in the incident. The identity of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.
The victims hailed from Barishal. They had been living in a rented flat in Dhaka’s Savar. The family went on a pilgrimage to a Sylhet shrine, Badrul said, citing information the law enforcers found till now.
“A truck coming from the opposite direction crashed into the private car returning from Sylhet when it reached Shahpur on the highway.”
“The car was heavily damaged and all the passengers were killed on the spot.”
The law enforcers recovered the bodies after the incident was reported and seized the vehicles involved in the collision, the police officer said.
