A case has been filed at a Dhaka court against Islamic scholar Shaikh Akramuzzaman Bin Abdussalam Madani for making derogatory comments on Shab-e-Barat, the night of fortune and forgiveness in Islamic theology.

This is the third case lodged against Abdussalam since February 27. He is the founder of the Ihya-us Sunnah Foundation.

Taking the case into cognizance on Sunday, Judge AKM Zulfikar Hayat of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal ordered the Counter Terrorism and Transitional Crime (CCTC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to submit a report through investigation.

Bangladesh Tariqat Federation Joint Secretary General Maulana Mufti Bakibillah Mishkat Chowdhury, the complainant, confirmed the developments.

Explaining the reason behind the case, Mishkat said: “After Abdussalam claimed that it is way better to visit a brothel than pray at Shab-e-Barat, the remark went viral on social media.”

The plaintiff also filed a prayer seeking the arrest of Abdussalam, who was also sued in Chittagong over the same charge on February 27 and 28.

The Chittagong Metropolitan Police is investigating the cases.

A general diary was filed against him in this regard at Panchlaish police station on February 25.
