Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the land port at Sabroom in the Northeastern State of Tripura that will facilitate the movement of passengers and cargo to and from Bangladesh.
Modi opened the land port through video conferencing from Itanagar, the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh also in India's North East.
The Sabroom land port, constructed with a cost of around Rs 230 crore and located along the border between South Tripura district in India and Ramgarh in Bangladesh, will provide facilities like a passenger terminal building, cargo administrative building and warehouse.
It will facilitate the movement of passengers and cargo between India and Bangladesh as the new land port allows direct transportation to Chittagong port of Bangladesh which is 75 Kms away as against Kolkata/Haldia river port in West Bengal which is about 1,700 Kms away.
Modi laid the foundation stone of the Sabroom landport in March 2021.
