The death toll reached four as another person succumbed to his burn injuries early Wednesday after an oil-laden tank lorry overturned and caught fire on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar on Tuesday morning.
Sakib, 15, breathed his last around 1:20 am on Wednesday at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Hospital’s resident doctor Tariqul Islam said 100 percent of his body was burnt in the incident.
Md. Babul, the in-charge of Savar Highway Police Station said an oil-laden lorry turned turtle and caught fire in Aricha bound lane in Jorpul area of Hemayetpur around 5:00am, leaving truck driver's helper Iqbal dead on the spot.
Eight injured were sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Later, Nazrul Islam, 45 and Helal died at 9:30 on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, the fire soon spread and burnt at least four more vehicles -- a private car, sources said.
On information, three firefighting units from Savar and Hemayetpur rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
