Can't avoid responsibility of certificate forgery: BTEB chairman

Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) chairman Ali Akbar Khan on Tuesday said he could not avoid the responsibility of the certificate forgery as the head of the education board. 

He said this while talking to the journalists after the interrogation of Detective Branch (DB) in connection to certificate forgery.

In response to questions from reporters, he also said: “An incident has occurred; there should be a fair investigation in this matter. Offenders should be punished by uncovering the facts. In this case, we are ashamed and sorry.”

Ali Akbar was interrogated at the DB office in capital’s Minto Road from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

When asked about his wife's arrest and her involvement, he said, "I don't know anything about my wife. I don't know what information the intelligence agencies got either. I don't know much about the intelligence agency.”

Regarding the bribe of Tk 20 lakh, he said, it is false, fabricated and baseless, it is under investigation.

In response to the question of how many certificate has been traded, he said, “I have heard in the media that it is five or five and a half thousand. However, we do not have any particular information about this.”

He further said while replying to another question, “Of course I cannot avoid the responsibility in this case.

Regarding his OSD, he said, “There was a news in the media and DB had the information that is why I was relieved of my duty.”
