The death toll from a fire at Mohakhali filling station in the capital on Wednesday (December 6) night has been risen to four as another victim succumbed to his burn injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Monday morning.
Deceased Md Masum, 28, with 60% burns, of Ramnathpur village under Sonaimuri Upazila of Noakhali district, succumbed to his injuries at 11am, confirmed Md Tariqul Islam, a resident surgeon of the institute.
Earlier, three other injured persons --Salauddin, 38, Amir Hossain Sumon, 32, and Abul Khair Gazi, 44,-- succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment in the institute.
Besides, three more injured persons-- Jibon, 21, Kamal Hossain, 50, Rana, 30, and Muhammad Mamun, 30, -- are currently receiving treatment.
The fire at Royal Filling Station in Mohakhali started at around 8.08pm on Wednesday. Being informed, two firefighting units brought the blaze under control at about 8:45pm, said Rozina Akter, duty officer of the Fire Service control room.
Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, suspected that the fire was caused by a gas cylinder explosion.
