RAB arrest over 50 on charges of sabotage centering polls

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested more than 50 people, including an upazila chairman and a public representative, in the last 72 hours of violence and vandalism across the country centering the national election campaign.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB's law and media wing, disseminated the information at a press conference at Karwan Bazar here today.

He said that there were several incidents occurred in deferent places across the country recently, adding, "We have seen some incidents happened with involvement of some identified terrorists by overzealous supporters of candidates during election campaigns."

The RAB director also said more than 50 people including an upazila chairman and public representative of Bogura were arrested in the last 72 hours.
 
The elite anti-crime forces also filed cases against them on specific charges. Besides, there were several written complaints were submitted to the returning officers and in view of those complaints, the returning officers informed the RAB, he added.

Al Moin said that the RAB intelligence and other law and order agencies have been working ahead of the national elections. "We are working on intelligence that includes individuals who may commit acts of violence or sabotage. If these persons are found before the elections, they will also be brought under the law," he added.
