A would-be plane hijacker held a flight to ransom on December 24, 1971 on a flight from Minneapolis to Chicago.
Everett Holt demanded US$300,000 in cash and two parachutes or he would blow up the plane.
When the plane was grounded, he was given the cash.
But while he was distracted counting the money, all the hostages slipped away without him noticing.
The FBI blinded the plane with floodlights and said via a megaphone "The plane is going nowhere, you might as well surrender".
Holt did, and was committed to a mental institution.
