Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-12) intercepted a former Member of Parliament’s duty-free Pajero car and recovered 442 bottles of Phensedyl in the Bangabandhu Setu West area of Sirajganj.

The operation led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer, Sujan Hossain, aged 29, from the roundabout area of Bangabandhu Setu West Highway.

The arrestee, hailing from Ekhlaspur village of Matlab North in Chandpur district, was apprehended on Saturday.

Along with the arrest, RAB-12 seized the Pajero jeep, allegedly used for drug transportation, a mobile phone employed for Phensedyl transactions, two SIM cards, and Tk 5,200 in cash.

RAB-12 Captain Maruf Hossain shared details of the operation in a press conference at RAB-12 headquarters on Sunday.

The raiding unit, acting on a tip-off, established a checkpost at the roundabout under Bangabandhu Setu West Thana in Sirajganj, suspecting that the former MP’s Pajero was transporting a substantial quantity of Phensedyl from Bogra to Dhaka.

Upon intercepting the Pajero, the detainee was apprehended, and further investigation revealed that the drug was concealed inside the fuel tank at the rear of the vehicle.

During questioning, the arrested individual confessed to supplying large quantities of drugs to various districts across the country, including Sirajganj.

A case has been filed and legal proceedings are underway.

Captain Maruf stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the involvement of others, including those connected to the deceased MP whose vehicle was used for the illicit transportation of drugs.
