Bangladesh has huge prospect in solar energy: Nasrul

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday said Bangladesh has huge potential of solar energy among renewable energy sources.

"We can work with global energy-based organizations like ISA to expand solar energy at large chars of the country including Bhasanchar," he made the comments when Director General of International Solar Alliance (ISA) Dr Ajay Mathur met with him at his residence, an official release said.

"The ISA could play a vital role in expanding rooftop solar. The coverage of solar power will be expanded in isolated char areas," the state minister said.

Nasrul Hamid said the economy size of Bangladesh is gradually increasing. There are huge investment opportunities in the ongoing and upcoming projects in Bangladesh.

He said, adding, the government is committed to ensure uninterrupted electricity at an affordable price.

The Director General of ISA informed Nasrul Hamid about the issues and decisions of the first steering committee meeting of ISA held yesterday.

He said a total of nine projects will be implemented by December 2024, of which $5.41 lakh will be spent for implementation of six projects. However, the estimated cost for setting up floating solar project was not fixed.

During the call on, Nirod Chandra Mandal, Joint Secretary of Power Division and Ramesh Kumar Kuruppath, Head of Program and Project Implementation Unit of ISA were present.
