Action against polluting factories to begin after Eid-ul-Azha: Saber

Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury on Wednesday said tannery industries of Savar would not allow pollute environment  considering the public health.
 
Timeline will be enforced to start setting up Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) in the factories, he said while addressing a special meeting on controlling pollution of BSCIC Tannery Industrial Estate at its auditorium at Hemayetpur.

Saber said the activities of cancelling environment clearance of illegal factories will begin after Eid-ul-Azha. The environment ministry and industries ministry have agreed to work on the issue to curb pollution, he said.

He said, it would not be possible to export leather goods if we cannot comply with the standard of leather working group in controlling pollution. Everyone should give importance in controlling pollution.

Chaired by prime minister’s advisor on Private Industry and Investment Affairs Salman F Rahman, the meeting addressed among others by Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Ministry Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed BSCIC Chairman Sanjoy Kumar Bhowmik and additional secretary of the industries ministry Kamrun Nahar.

Owners of leather factories were present in the meeting.
