4 dead, 3 injured in collision between trucks in Cumilla

At least seven people, including four in Cumilla, were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in four districts on Tuesday.

Our correspondent in Cumilla reported that four people were killed and three others injured in an accident in front of the RNR pump in Belasar area of Chandina at about 5:30am.

The dead were identified as Monir Hossain, 28, Habibur Rahman, 32, Akhtar Hossain, 35, and Rafiqul Islam, 23.

Rafiqul was an aide to the stationery truck's driver while the others were travelling on the other vehicle.

A Dhaka-bound truck pulled up in front of the RNR Filling Station due to a mechanical issue. Rafiqul was working beneath the parked truck to repair the problem when the fish-laden truck slammed into it from behind and overturned, said Manjurul.

Four people were killed on the spot.

A unit of the Fire Service, aided by the police and locals, subsequently recovered the bodies. The injured were taken to the Chandina Upazila Health Complex.

The truck drivers fled the scene after the collision, said Manjurul. Police are initiating legal action over the incident.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported that a labour was killed and three others injured in a road accident in Amin Bazar area on the Shariatpur-Chandpur regional highway of Shariatpur Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Lokman Sheikh, 38, of Hogla village at Sadar upazila of Shariatpur.

Police said that the accident occurred when a covered van hit a Nasiman, locally-made vehicle, from behind in the area about 6:00am, leaving the passengers critically injured.

The wounded were taken to Shariatpur Sadar hospital where an on-duty doctor declared Lokman Sheikh dead.

Police seized the covered van but its driver fled away, said inspector of Palong Model Thana Mosharrof Hossain.

A case was being processed to file in this regard, he added.

BSS also reported that a man was killed in a road accident in Satkhira Sadar.

The deceased was identified as Mostafizur Rahman, 65, a retired government official of Kalaroa upazila of the district.

Local people said the accident occurred at about 1:00pm in Waria area of Sadar upazila while Mostafizur was heading towards Satkhira boarding a vehicle named Mahindra, leaving him dead on the spot.

Satkhira Sadar police station OC Mohidul Islam confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, an unidentified woman was killed after being hit by a bus in the capital’s Shahbag area.

Shahbag police station sub-inspector Md Selim said that a bus of Savar Paribahan hit the woman as she was crossing the road in front of Aziz super market, leaving her seriously injured.

Later, she was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in a critical condition where the doctor on-duty declared her dead on arrival.
