The current government has appointed 22,608 doctors in the last three tenures in 14 years to reach healthcare the doorsteps of people across the country.
As a result, people of the country from villages to cities are getting health services more easily than ever before at all government hospitals.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 1518 doctors were recruited in 2009, 803 in 2010, 212 in 2011, 928 in 2012, 608 in 2013, 6325 in 2014, 220 in 2016, 444 in 2017, 182 in 2018, 5100 in 2019, 2000 in 2020, 281 in 2021 and 4077 in 2022.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) director (admin) Prof Dr. Md. Shamiul Islam said that the government has appointed 22, 608 physicians in 14 years in the last three terms (2009 to 2022).
As a result, the crisis of physicians at all the government hospitals from villages to cities of the country has been resolved.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is committed to reach modern health services the doorsteps of the people.
During the current terms of the Awami League government since 2019, as many as 11, 458 doctors have been appointed as all the people of the country can easily get medical services.
Before the Awami League government came to power through 2008 general elections, there were 18, 000 government doctors, the health minister said.
During the last three terms, over 33,000 nurses were also recruited.
Regarding the construction of various medical infrastructures across the country, the Zahid Maleque said the government will build medical universities having burn units, neuroscience, orthopedics, dermatology, mental health care facilities in all divisions of the country.
In the last five years, 1,200 seats have been increased in the medical colleges, which is unprecedented in the history of the country, the minister added.
